EPM Cloud: Edit Variables Task

As part of a year rollover or budget opening task list, it is a common task for an administrator to need to update substitution variables. For example, updating the substitution variable that indicates the current financial year.


The problem is that there isn’t a specific ‘Edit Variables’ task type to guide the admin to the correct page for editing sub vars.

Fortunately, the same result can be achieved using a URL task type, along with the below URL:

https://OracleDomain.oraclecloud.com/HyperionPlanning/planningJET/variables/js/views/variables.html

Where OracleDomain is your EPM Cloud environment.


Instructions for which variables to update can still be accessed from the Task (i) icon.

The Task will show with a URL world icon.


Clicking on the Task Name link will open a second tab on the Variables page:
The original tab will stay open for the admin to reference back to instructions or move onto the next task.

Using IPM Insights in Smart View

As part of the April 2025 EPM patch updates, Oracle released a new version of Oracle Smart View for Office (version 25.100), which included the ability to use IPM insights directly in Smart View . Previously, the insights generated by IPM have only been accessible via the web interface, so this is a welcome improvement to allow users to access the insights via smart view. To view IPM Insights in Smart View, first connect to your Planning application and right click on the application name. Not only is the OOTB connector included within PBCS Data Management but the integration is simple to setup and to schedule using EPM Automate.
