Standard vs Native Smart View Ad Hoc Behaviour

In the latest July (21.07) EPM patch, Oracle have provided us with some additional enhanced ad hoc features for Standard mode applications – but if you found yourself wondering what “Standard mode” is and how it is activated, then you've come to the right blog!

Firstly, a definition; there are two Smart View Ad Hoc Behaviours available in EPM:

  • Native – this is the default mode and does not have enhanced features available.
  • Standard – must be switched on and enables enhanced ad hoc features.

As Native is the default setting, we need to enable Standard mode in the EPM application by performing the below steps:

  1. Login to the EPM system on the web
  2. Navigate to Application -> Settings
  3. Scroll down to Smart View Ad Hoc Behaviour
  4. Use the drop down to select Standard mode
  5. Save your changes

This will then enable the “enhanced” ad hoc features in Smart View.

Some of the key enhanced behaviours are:

  • In-grid POV – Members in the 'Point Of View’ are placed at the top of the excel grid instead of in the POV toolbar.

  • Free-form support – Additional support for empty columns/rows, changing alias table and auto-refresh in free forms.
  • Saving ad hoc grids – Ability to save ad hoc grids; however, the Submit Formatting option is not yet available.
  • Multiple-grid ad hoc – Support for multiple ad hoc grids on the same Excel worksheet.

Finally, as mentioned, as part of the 21.07 July patch, there are some additional enhanced features, including:

  • Additional Zoom In Options – Additional commands available:
    • Sibling Level – Retrieves the siblings of the selected member(s).
    • Same Level – Retrieves all members at the same level of the selected member(s).
    • Same Generation – Retrieves all members at the same generation of the selected member(s).
  • Multiple-cell Select for Ad Hoc Operations – You can now select multiple row or column member cells and then zoom in, zoom out or use keep/remove only. Note that the integrity and validity of the grid must be maintained.

So as you can see, some great new features available in ad hoc Smart View – just remember to switch to Standard mode for Smart View Ad Hoc Behaviour to enable these!
